Now that we are in a new year, I ask that both students and parents committ to improving his/her school attendance.  There is no question that student achievement goes hand in hand with good attendance. Please refer to your student handbook for the school’s policy on school attendnace.  In addition, a copy of the attendance policy can be sent home by your child.

If your child must be out for any reason, please notify our attendance clerk or send an excuse. Excused absences include illness, family emergencies, court and religious holidays or cultural observences (notify us in advance). Remember, when your child is in school he/she is more likely to receive higher grades and higher test scores.

Let us join forces in making sure our children come to school.

One of my responsibilities is to advocate for students and their parents and In 2007, I worked with many students and their famlies who needed various forms of assistance, ranging from behavioral to financial assistance.  I look forward to continuing this level of service this year.  There are several exciting initiatives and activities planned for students and their families at the Barnes Center. For example, School assemblies/guest speakers, Parent Volunteering,  Lunch and Learn Sessions, Field Trips and many more. As school social worker, my ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between students/parents, school and community by offering quality services and activities for everyone.  I look forward to working with everyone as we strive to move our students forward academically, behaviorally and personally.
